Disney Offers Free Tickets for Volunteers: "Give a Day - Get a Disney Day"

On January 1, 2010, Disney launched a new promotion that offers volunteers a free ticket to a Disney theme park in exchange for a day of service. The ambitious nationwide volunteerism campaign, called "Give a Day - Get a Disney Day," promises free one day admission to the first 1 million guests who complete a day of volunteer work in the year 2010. Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers is participating through our local HandsOn Network affiliate Pittsburgh Cares: all of our service opportunities will qualify volunteers for Disney vouchers. So far, response to the Disney incentive has been tremendous! Our monthly Safety for Seniors Saturday service projects have filled up quickly, and we have also benefited from the help of several new office volunteers and people who are interested in becoming Faith in Action caregivers.

All current IVC volunteers are eligible to participate in Disney’s program – it’s easy! The first step is to visit Disney’s web site (www.disneyparks.com) and register by clicking on “Give a Day – Get a Disney Day”. Once you have registered, you can search for volunteer opportunities. When you find Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, sign up with our program. Once you do this, IVC will receive an email from Disney and we will follow up with you to finish the process so you can receive your voucher.

Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Awarded $135,000 by United Way

On December 10, 2008, the United Way of Allegheny County announced that it would continue funding Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Southwestern PA for the work IVC does to help seniors remain healthy and safe at home. From a field of 31 applicants, IVC was chosen as one of five agencies that "succeeded in demonstrating that they were well run, financially sound and operating effective programs to meet important community needs" (Source: United Way press release). The funding period for this $135,000 annual contract runs from April 2009 through March 2011, and may be renewed based on agency performance reports and continued need for IVC services.
